The Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. Students can only take the PSAT once per year in the 10th or 11th grade. If students earn a high score on the PSAT their junior year, they could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship—$180 million dollars in merit scholarships are awarded to students each year. The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes long and tests skills in reading, writing, and math. Unlike the SAT, the highest score possible on the PSAT is 1520.

The PSAT will be given at Terry High School on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. In order to take the PSAT, students have to be in 10th or 11th grade. The cost is $18 and can only be paid through PSAT, go to collegereadiness.collegeboard.org and click on PSAT/NMSQT for links to practice tests, inside the test, and how to prepare for the PSAT. myschoolbucks.com. All payments must be made before October 1st.
