The Hinds County School District is sharing important information about upcoming changes to Mississippiās accountability system for grading schools and districts that will take effect when schools and districts receive grades for the 2025 - 2026 school year.
The most important thing to know is that the Mississippi State Board of Education has raised the bar for earning school and district letter grades. Raising academic standards is an essential part of ensuring Mississippi students and schools continue to improve academically each year.
The higher bar will set a new baseline for measuring progress. This means many schools and districts statewide may not maintain the grade they earned last year, even if students perform as well or better on state assessments. That is why the state and local communities are treating this year as a reset and starting point from which future progress will be measured.
The Hinds County School District has worked hard to achieve our "B" grade for the 2024 - 2025 school year, and our students, teachers, staff and administrators have been working diligently all year to exceed last yearās performance. Our district has a track record of continuous improvement, and we expect this yearās statewide assessments will show even greater student achievement.
Please take a moment to view this video from Dr. Lance Evans, State Superintendent of Education - Raising the Bar
