The Hinds County School District is excited to announce the launch of its Summer of Love, Hope & Leadership, an initiative designed to provide engaging, high-quality experiences for students across the district.

This summer, a series of dynamic programs will be offered in the areas of Academics, Arts, and Athletics, giving students opportunities to grow academically, explore their creativity, and develop leadership skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Selected programs will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during two program sessions: June 8–11, 2026, and June 15–18, 2026. Programs may be designed as one-day experiences, multi-day sessions, or a series of mini camps spanning up to eight total days across the two-week period.

The district is seeking thoughtful, well-designed proposals that offer meaningful student engagement and align with the initiative’s core pillars:

ā— Love, through building relationships, belonging, and support
ā— Hope, through expanding opportunities and future pathways
ā— Leadership, through developing student voice, confidence, and responsibility

This initiative represents an opportunity to create experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom while inspiring students to grow both academically and personally. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that are innovative, student-centered, and aligned with one of the three focus areas.

The Call for Program Proposals application is available by clicking this link: Summer of Love, Hope and Leadership Call for Program Proposals. Additional materials, including application guidance and the evaluation rubric, are also provided to support the development of strong submissions by clicking here: Summer of Love, Hope and Leadership Application Guidance. The Hinds County School District is sharing important information about upcoming changes to Mississippi’s accountability system for grading schools and districts that will take effect when schools and districts receive grades for the 2025 - 2026 school year.

The most important thing to know is that the Mississippi State Board of Education has raised the bar for earning school and district letter grades. Raising academic standards is an essential part of ensuring Mississippi students and schools continue to improve academically each year.

The higher bar will set a new baseline for measuring progress. This means many schools and districts statewide may not maintain the grade they earned last year, even if students perform as well or better on state assessments. That is why the state and local communities are treating this year as a reset and starting point from which future progress will be measured.

The Hinds County School District has worked hard to achieve our "B" grade for the 2024 - 2025 school year, and our students, teachers, staff and administrators have been working diligently all year to exceed last year’s performance. Our district has a track record of continuous improvement, and we expect this year’s statewide assessments will show even greater student achievement.

Please take a moment to view this video from Dr. Lance Evans, State Superintendent of Education - Raising the Bar
