Delta State

The Hinds County School District has entered into a partnership with Delta State University through the Mississippi Teacher Residency Program to strengthen the teacher pipeline and support the development of future educators.

Through this partnership, teacher residents employed by HCSD will gain practical classroom experience under the guidance of experienced district educators while receiving training, supervision and support from Delta State University. The program provides aspiring teachers with opportunities to develop instructional skills and gain valuable experience in real-world classroom settings.

HCSD will identify qualified mentor teachers to provide classroom guidance and professional support to participating residents. Delta State University will provide university-based supervision, classroom observations and evaluations to support residents throughout their preparation.

Applications are now open for the program's next cohort. The opportunity is available to non-certified district employees who hold a bachelor's degree and are interested in pursuing elementary education certification with an endorsement in special education. Grant funding is available to cover tuition, textbooks and licensure examination fees, subject to funding availability. Interested employees can learn more and apply through Delta State University's Teacher Residency Program.

This partnership reflects HCSD's continued commitment to investing in educator development and building a strong teacher workforce. By connecting classroom experience with university preparation, HCSD and Delta State University are working together to prepare effective educators for today's classrooms and the future of public education.
