Tricia Bennett: Leading with Love, Hope, and Leadership at Terry High School

Tricia Bennett brings the district theme of Love, Hope, and Leadership to life through her work with Exceptional Education students at Terry High School. She leads with love through unwavering advocacy, compassion, and a deep belief that every student is both employable and teachable. Tricia is committed to ensuring that students across the district, including those in Exceptional Education, receive equitable opportunities to grow, learn, and prepare for life beyond high school. Her passion for education is rooted in family and purpose. With a mother who served as a teacher for 35 years and a sister who also chose the profession, Tricia’s path into education was shaped early. She began working with Exceptional Education students while still in high school and has remained dedicated to supporting their success ever since. She believes that students at every level deserve meaningful opportunities to develop skills, build confidence, and transition successfully into adulthood and the workforce. Tricia shows hope by helping students envision futures that include independence, purpose, and meaningful employment. Through partnerships with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, she connects students to valuable supports and services that strengthen their readiness for the workforce and the community. Watching a student’s face light up after receiving a call from a potential employer is one of the most rewarding parts of her work, as it reflects the confidence and capability that come from intentional training and encouragement. With a vision to expand transition opportunities for all Exceptional Education students in Hinds County, Tricia works to ensure that each student is prepared to leave high school with the skills and support needed to succeed. Relationships, encouragement, and high expectations guide her daily work, and she creates an environment where students feel empowered to grow into confident, capable members of their community. Through her leadership, Tricia continues to sow seeds of success that extend far beyond the classroom and into the lives and futures of the students she serves.
