Kazi Hoque: Leading with Love, Hope, and Leadership at Terry High School
Kazi Hoque brings the district theme of Love, Hope, and Leadership to life in his Multimedia classroom at Terry High School. He shows love through patience, kindness, and understanding and he shows hope by helping students see that their talents in design, photography, and video can open real doors. He leads by serving and guiding them as they grow. His journey to teaching has been long and humbling because he moved from a small Southeast Asian country to Canada in the early 2000s, worked long hours in blue collar jobs, and studied design at night before continuing his path in the United States where he rebuilt his career from the ground up. Becoming a Multimedia teacher at Terry High School felt like a full circle moment for him and he is now more than halfway through completing his Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and Media Arts at Southern New Hampshire University which inspires him to show students that learning never stops. He focuses on real world learning with hands on projects that mirror work in a design studio and he mentors students who want to take their skills further. One of his proudest moments was watching a student launch a photography business after taking his class and he even gave that student one of his lenses to help him start. Hoque works to make sure every student feels seen and capable because creativity has no single right answer and he encourages students to trust their own voice. He builds relationships by listening, celebrating different perspectives, and guiding students through storytelling and design projects that help them grow in confidence. He chose Hinds County School District because it felt like a community that lives out its values and he is proud to call it home because it allows him to do meaningful work each day that gives students hope and shows them what is possible when someone believes in them.
