Raymond, Miss. – The Hinds County School District Board and Superintendent Dr. Mitchell Shears are pleased to announce the establishment of the Director of District Communications position. With this strategic move, the district is embracing a new era of visibility, transparency, and engagement by appointing communications professional Parkisha Davis to lead this vital work.
This forward-thinking role represents a significant expansion of the district’s leadership structure and signals a commitment to shaping a compelling public identity while cultivating stronger partnerships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
“In creating this role, we are prioritizing strategic messaging that not only informs but also inspires,” Superintendent Shears, said. “Ms. Davis brings over a decade of experience in education and communications, and her proven ability to lead digital engagement and brand strategy positions her to help us tell the district’s story in a way that resonates both locally and beyond. She’s not just managing communications—she’s shaping the narrative of who we are and where we’re going.”
As the Director of District Communications, Davis will serve as the district’s brand architect and communications lead, designing and implementing a framework for internal and external engagement. In this capacity, she will guide the district’s storytelling strategies and curate narratives that reflect the heart of its mission and amplify the voices of students, educators and families. Her work will encompass public relations, social media strategy, website management, and stakeholder storytelling with an emphasis on clarity, consistency, and connection.
Davis most recently served as the Communications Coordinator for the Division of Student Success at Jackson State University, where she led multi-channel campaigns that aligned with institutional messaging and elevated student success. Her portfolio includes high-impact initiatives such as the “Grant Me Success Today” campaign, First-Gen Celebration, National TRIO Day, and Bridging the Silos: Student Success Summit, demonstrating her capacity to build visibility through innovation and creativity.
Her professional journey also includes roles as a Speech and Beginning Journalism teacher, Production Assistant at WDBD Fox 40, and higher education Academic Advisor. These experiences have equipped her with a unique blend of storytelling, media production, and student-centered communication.
As part of her vision, Davis has already begun evaluating the district’s communications infrastructure, working to create new branding tools, and working closely with school-based webmasters to improve consistency and creativity. “This role is about more than messaging. It’s about momentum,” Davis shared. “This district is doing meaningful work, and it’s time to shine a brighter light on that. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help bring those stories forward.”
Davis holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mass communication, a specialist degree in educational leadership, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational administration and supervision.
