    Delesicia M. Martin

     

    Dr. Delesicia M. Martin was appointed Superintendent of the Hinds County School District on December 16, 2013.  She has served in the field of public education for over twenty-six years. Dr. Martin began her teaching career as a social studies instructor and Special Populations Coordinator in the McComb School District. The past 22 years have been spent serving the students of the Hinds County School District in several administrative positions, which include serving as an Assistant Principal at Terry High School, Principal at Raymond High School, Director of Student Services, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent at the Central Office level.

    This visionary leader comes into this position with extensive knowledge in current educational reform practices, professional development, supporting low performing students and schools, accountability, personnel and fiscal management.  She understands the challenges that lie ahead as districts across the state and nation face similar challenges in improving student achievement. 

    Dr. Martin says, “It takes the entire community to ensure the success of a district.  She plans to tap into the knowledge, skills and support of our internal and external stakeholders in order to provide a quality education for all students.”  Martin hopes that as the new superintendent of schools she will leave a legacy of increased student achievement by building teacher capacity, developing effective district and school leaders, ensuring financial efficiency, and strengthening parent, community and business partnerships.

    Dr. Martin received a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University and both a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
